I t's over a month until the Fourth of July but, that didn't stop Mother Nature from sending plenty of much needed rain for the Upper Valley and the Franklin Mountains that rise above the Westside of El Paso.

The area has experience a severe drought during 2009 with only a trace of rain a and few flurries of snow for the past five months. But, although there was a little drizzle early on the 22nd by afternoon the clouds opened up and it poured throughout the area with nearly an inch of rain in several areas.

The magic day for the monsoons to arrive has traditionally been the Fourth of July. In fact the floods of 2006 started at midnight on the 4th/5th and it rained for months.

The rains made for a fresh balloon lift on Saturday morning in the Upper Valley as part of the KLAQ Balloon Fest.
