The Dreaded Salt Cedar Invades... But, Provides Summer Beauty.
Salt Cedar in full bloom as spring warms the canals in Upper Valley.

I t must have seemed like a good idea. Bring in a plant that grows like a weed... "weed" is the key word, and can fight for water like a cactus or mesquite bush. Hmmm. Well, a hundred years later and the salt cedar has shown that it is here to stay no matter how much water it drinks and how many canals it clogs.

The good thing is that if you sit under a salt cedar on a blistering hot day you will feel like you have found a plant with its own air-conditioning.

And the beauty of the millions of tiny flowers that bloom in a cloud of subtle pastel colors is breath taking.
