W ith all of the rain it is of concern that the El Paso Public Health Department has not pushed for more prevention and eradication of mosquitoes. Now, with a looming viral pandemic as in the H1N1 "Swine Flu" virus the danger of more serious illnesses from West Nile Virus is so much greater.

Residents of the area have to be extra careful this year with mosquitoes. Why? Because statistics show that many of the world's fatalities from swine flu are those who have had more serious health concerns. And that is where West Nile Virus come in.

While, you can usually ride out a West Nile Virus infection with some bed rest and fluids; West Nile Virus is a very serious disease. This disease, West Nile Virus, can cause serious neural damage and even death. Usually, the El Paso Health Department reports less than a dozen deaths in the El Paso county area that are confirmed deaths from West Nile Virus. But, more deaths are caused from West Nile Virus and the number of persons infected is huge compared to the the few reported by the EPHD. Why? Because many hundreds and perhaps thousands of El Paso County and Dona Ana County residents are infected but never see a physician. Thus, it is never reported.

Now, the problem is when you are infected with one and then contract the other. This is the perfect storm for many more serious symptoms suffering from the patient.

So, prevent. But, who has not nor will be biten by a mosquito this summer? So take care of your health and if you feel ill, do not ignore this. If you get the other virus it could be trouble.
