T
he Southwestern heat is nothing to sneer at. And luckily for the residents of the Mesilla Valley the green of the river valley farms and fields is a refuge that can't be duplicated with air-conditioning nor trips to Seattle, Washington.
And when you think of the valley you have to think of the Rio Grande. But, unlike years ago; swimming in the river is hazardous to your health. Maybe a few of the big canals up the valley by La Mesa and San Miguel are still clean enough. Of course, if you can find a irrigation pump roaring and pouring a huge flow of water into a field you could take a dip in that 55-degree water to cool off.

Or, you can do what these kids are doing. And that is making the best of the summer for playing in the pool at the Gallegos Memorial Park in Canutillo, Texas.
The water slide is the perfect excitement for the little ones or the young at heart. And of course every young guy wants to be able to fly through the air and make that catch... or at least retrieve that little blue ball.
