Angelina Bencomo, family and consumer sciences teacher at Canutillo High School, was a guest presenter at the 2008 State Professional Development Tri-Cluster Conference held in Dallas this summer. She presented a seminar on Creative Ideas for Teaching Child Development, to the Education & Training, Hospitality & Human Services Career Clusters.
Bencomo, who is a member of the Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Association of Texas (FCSTAT), joined approximately 1,500 other teachers at the conference, titled Making the Connection, which is planned and coordinated by the FCSTAT and the Texas Education Agency.
Family and Consumer Sciences Education provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society and the ability to train and retrain throughout life. Family and Consumer Sciences Educators also educate themselves annually through participation in professional development to ensure their success in the classroom as well as the success of their students, said Barbara Garcia, FCSTAT President.
