Hurricane Ike Slams the Gulf Coast.

The Gulf Coast was not spared the impact of a very powerful hurricane. After menacing the Carribean, Hurricane Ike slammed into southeast Texas and devastated Galveston Island and much of the suburbs of Houston, Texas.

Those Louisiana residents displaced by Hurricane Bonnie a few weeks earlier breathed a sigh of relief as the huge storm missed New Orleans.

But, although the hurricane hit landfall near Galveston; New Orleans had much rain to contend with.
