Some say that the rains that drenched the Upper Valley and El Paso with up to 3 inches of rain arrived to show respect as the area learned of Coach Don Haskin's passing.

Although the weather guessers predicted a 20% chance of precipitation for the 7th. it should have been 100%. After a perfectly summer-like Saturday just great weather for tailgating prior to the Texas - UTEP football game at the Sun Bowl, and a very sunny Sunday; the rains came quickly and did not let up as backyards turned into lakes and streets were impassable.

The rains that arrived at 9:00 PM on Sunday and would have wrecked havoc on the thousands of fans at the game the day before.
