The White Sands Balloon Festival celebrated its 17th annual Balloon Invitational in Alamogordo and White Sands National Park.

This special venue offers a very unique opportunity to fly in and over a national monument (White Sands) and to fly in or near restricted airspace (White Sands Missle Range and Holloman AFB). Not to mention the thrill of soaring high about the white ocean of gypsum.

Organized in conjunction with the National Park Service this event is a one of a kind autumn spectacular attended by nearly 5,000 fans each year.

The balloon glow, which is where the balloons are fired up at sundown and while still anchored down... make a great giant luminarias display, is held at the AHS football field.

Prepared by UVB staff.
