The stage was set at Canutillo's Julius and Irene Lowenberg Eagles Stadium. Tied for the top spot in District 2-4A were the Riverside Rangers and the Eagles. This game would determine the playoff seedings and also give one of the se teams the District 2-4A crown outright.

The Eagles were defending their title as district co-champions in 2007 and had solid offensive and defensive lines and the brother of legendary Eagle star Fernie De la Rosa... sophmore tailback John De La Rosa who has been racking up huge yardage against all the teams they have faced.

Going into the game, De La Rosa led the city with 1,523 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns; while Canutillo is averaging just over 300 rushing yards per game.

The Riverside Rangers started off the season poorly but have proven to be a worthy opponent for the Eagles after they knocked off the highly ranked Parkland Matadores 38-28 last Friday at Riverfront Stadium.

Canutillo beat Ysleta 50-6 last week and showed a balanced attack to beat Riverside 38-12 to go to 8-2 for the regular season.
