T
he New Shanghai Circus "Cirque de Chine" comes to the Plaza Theatre featuring acrobats, dancers, jugglers and costumes to dazzle the senses. Founded in 1951 as the Shanghai Acrobatic Theatre, the New Shanghai Circus claims has wowed the judges in winning medals at domestic and international circus competitions.
In this day and age of high tech wizardry it is refreshing to see skilled artists still taking pride in the presentation of human music and movement. The show will features acrobats, jugglers and contortionists but that's not all. The performances include innovative as well as ancient ritual movement and dance with choreography, music and colorful design to dazzle the senses.
The Cirque uses a blend of juggling with both hands and feet, a dance version of kung fu strikes, kicks, tumbles and leaps and various contortionists who magically suspend with the laws of gravity. The costumes are as resplendid as the royal gowns of silk and the ribbons and flags that are flown around the stage will seem like a kaleidoscopic vision.
The performances are in Las Cruces at the Rio Grande Theatre on the 29th at 7:30 PM and in El Paso on the 30th at 3:00 and 7:30 PM.
