T o say that the ride to another District 1-5A Crown has been difficult for the Coronado Thunderbirds would be trite. But, that it has been difficult for all of the front runners is not subject to question. Franklin was riding the wave on top and fell to Americas only to bounce back with a vengance against Montwood. Coronado jumped on Americas but fell short as Montwood force fed the T-Birds a comeback dish of crow on Coronado's home turf at Quarles Thunderbird Stadium.

Add to the fact that the T-Birds went on the road to play Midland Lee which was a trial by fire with Coronado falling in triple overtime and you can see that as the dust clears, the winner of the district crown will be the team which has most definitively been earned.

Friday night was another one of the "must win" district rollercoaster showdowns between district leaders Coronado and El Dorado. Both teams not immune to the canabalism of district leaders knocking off eachother as both teams came into this game having lost just once before in district with both teams losing to Montwood. The T-Birds had recovered from their loss to Montwood going on the road last week and taking out their frustration against a fading Eastwood team 59-12. The El Dorado Aztecs recovered from their loss to Montwood as well as they put it all together and hammered the Franklin Cougars 42-18.

Now it was going to be another one of those "somebodies going to be very unhappy after this game"... and it wasn't going to be the Thunderbirds. Coronado pounced on the Aztecs in the second half scoring 27 points to El Dorado's 10 and successfully completeing a comeback against one of the most stubborn of defenses.
