O es... Halloween falls on a Sunday this year... but, what's a day or two when you can have twice as much fun... or not. For the adults who are willing to lower themselves to putting on a costume... then Saturday night will be the night to go to parties and/or the bars.

When it comes to the kids... there may be some confusion... as in... should ou take the kids out to trick-or-treat on Halloween night, or will everyone be making the rounds Saturday night, instead? There are many family-oriented celebrations planned for Saturday or Sunday. There are also special fright-night venues open. But most families will be taking the kiddos out on Sunday... for a real authentic Halloween.

Also, some have suggested that when Halloween falls on a Sunday... a day of worship... that it be "officially" celebrated on Saturday or Monday... so as not to taint the holiness of Sunday... and NFL football. But, that is not going to happen in this area.

There are some precautions to use while trick-or-treating. After dark use a flashlight, make sure you are careful crossing the street...espically if you just crossed it... and make sure your child's costume is visible at night or use glow tabs.

Thinking of creating a great Jack-o-lantern? Then you need to head to the pumpkin patche at Maldonado Maze in La Union, New Mexico for your ideal, fresh and local pumpkin.

The key to having a jack-o-lantern ready and prime for Halloween haunting is carving it at the right time. Carved pumpkins will not last forever, so timing it right is key. In general, carved pumpkins will last for about a week if kept in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. A pumpkin left in midday sun and heat will likely rot or mold much more quickly.

For those planning on carving pumpkins for Halloween, it's best to do so a day or two before the big day. This way the design will be crisp and fresh. There also are ways to increase the jack-o-lantern's longevity.

When once it was neighborhood kids staying within a small neighborhood there will be many more kids and parents making those same stops. And don't forget... that there are kids being driven...or bused into areas of the Westside and Upper Valley that are not used to that many trick-or-treaters. Areas that were once neglected by the ghostly apparitions may see groups of costumed kids for the first time... so make sure you have candy on hand.
